Farish's Fan Fiction

Abandoned.

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. The wonderful J K Rowling owns all and only lets me use the names of her characters.

17 year old Harry Potter found himself staring down the barrel of a gun; everything that had happened with Voldemort was still freshly imprinted in his mind. Ever since he had grown up, all the years in Hogwarts had always taught him to do the right thing and some how he felt responsible in playing the role of the hero. Although since the demise of the powerful dark magician, things were rather dull for the Auror. There were domestic disturbances or a muggle accidentally stumbling upon an elderly wizard. This lead to a muggle being cursed or sometimes on the worst case scenario wounded. All of this had sent Harry into a frenzy getting bored of his rather dull lifestyle and wanting to spice things up, he decided to try his luck out at becoming a masked crusader, something which he only read about in the comics which his cousin would throw out. This lead Harry to lead two separate lives, one which he would be an honest magician working for the Ministry of Magic while the other the life of a vigilante, whom used magic to catch criminals, he had always been careful not to expose his wand or leave traces that might make people suspect something peculiar about him.

It was not easy especially with the mark which the dark lord had left on his head. “I know who you are.” The man said with a crooked grin playing on his lips. “You’re that Harry Potter, the famous wizard!” The gun hovered higher, pointing directly at Harry’s head, if only he had not left his wand behind, Harry thought quietly to himself. He had never thought that someone born into a wizard’s family with no powers, a squib could hold such a grudge towards him. “You don’t need to use the gun.” Harry said calmly, taking a few steps towards the unshaven middle aged man, whom seemed rather drunk. “You don’t have to do this, how about we try being civil.” Harry knew had the wand been in his possession he d be zapping curses left and right until the man was down. But he was hoping this squib was nothing like him.

“Listen Erick, maybe if I were to talk to the ministry I could have you somehow gain some form of magic, after all they should listen to me.” He suggested, trying to somehow think of someway to talk the man out of doing something which he would most likely regret later on. It was clear like most squibs; he blamed magicians for all his troubles since being abandoned by his wizard family.

“Shut up! Shut up! Shut up!” Erick was clearly at wit’s end as he shouted repeatedly, his blood shot eyes not leaving Harry’s for a moment. Harry could see one emotion from Erick quite clearly, desperation. This was the main reason he had not made a dash for it. He chuckled softly to himself; he could imagine the irony of the situation if he was killed by Erick, the famous Harry Potter, whom defeated Voldemort killed by a squib.

He shook his head, the worst thing right now was to speculate the worst case scenario he thought to himself, and he needed to be positive. He had after all managed to out wit and out power the most powerful magician known in wizard history that would mean that he should be able to handle a squib with no magical ability at all. Taking a deep breath in he decided to attempt a fight.

Harry lunged forward, grabbing at the hilt of the gun to try and snatch it out of Erick’s hand. “What the f....” Erick sputtered, struggling to control his grip on the gun. The next few moments were a blur a gunshot echoed throughout the street and Harry found himself staring down at Erick, his body lying limp on the ground, blood spilling on to the pavement. Oh my god, Harry thought, he was going to become accused as a murderer, before he could make a run for it, he found himself surrounded by a dozen officers whom cuffed him and lead him away. The next few days wizards did come in to try and prove his innocence but the Ministry of Magic had banned the use of magic in the muggle world and the wizardry world could do little but watch as Harry was accused of murder and imprisoned for 20 years.

Those next 20 years were long and hard for Harry Potter and by the time he had finally been released, he felt his 37 odd years catch up to him. His whole childhood, he had been abused by his guardians then launched into an adventurous life, hunted by a dark lord. Now he decided to live a quiet life among the muggles, desiring not to live among wizards whom did not really lift a finger to help Harry when needed them. Near the end of his life, he felt abandoned, first by his parents, then guardians and now finally by the wizard world.

  1. Hi Farrish, this is a really good read, I would hazard a guess and say that you have written fanfic in the past? The narrative was really good, and the dialogue fits in perfectly with the story. I think you managed to block the paragraphs in a way that makes your fanfic easily readable. The time jump was a nicely added touch. It really is almost ironic, that if magic can't help you, what can? All that power and you can't use it. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Harry at the end. The culmination of all that has happened to him throughout his life resulted in him feeling abandoned. Grammar wise, there was the absence of the odd comma, but it certainly didn't hinder me from reading your very enjoyable fanfic.
